We are currently seeking a Systems Safety Engineer to join our team and play a key role in the safety planning and risk management of our client's systems. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring safety-critical systems meet the highest safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Management: Develop and implement comprehensive system safety plans to manage safety risks across system lifecycles, ensuring compliance with relevant safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262, IEC 61508, MIL-STD-882E).
Risk Assessment: Conduct in-depth hazard analysis, including Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) to identify and mitigate safety risks.
Safety Requirements Definition: Define safety requirements for complex systems and ensure these are integrated throughout the engineering process, from concept through to final system delivery.
System Safety Program Planning: Lead the creation of System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs) and manage safety reviews to track the implementation of safety controls and compliance.
Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including systems engineers, project managers, and external stakeholders, to ensure that all safety requirements are incorporated into the system design and operational processes.
Compliance & Certification: Support the certification and approval processes for safety-critical systems, ensuring that all safety assessments meet necessary regulatory standards.
Incident Investigation & Reporting: In the event of system failures or safety incidents, lead investigations, analyse root causes, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Key Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Systems Safety, or a related field.
Proven experience as a Systems Safety Engineer, ideally within industries such as aerospace, defense, or automotive.
Strong knowledge of safety standards such as ISO 26262, IEC 61508, MIL-STD-882E, ARP 4761, and DO-178.
Experience in conducting FMEA, HAZOP, FTA, and other risk assessment techniques.
Solid understanding of safety lifecycle processes, including hazard analysis, risk mitigation, and safety verification.
Experience in preparing and reviewing System Safety Program Plans (SSPP).
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex safety data into actionable safety measures.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear safety reports and communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in Systems Safety Engineering, such as Certified Systems Safety Professional (CSSP).
Experience working with safety-critical systems in high-regulation industries (e.g., defense, aerospace).
Knowledge of safety certification processes for both commercial and military applications.
Familiarity with risk-based decision-making tools and techniques.
